A Practical Take on Reducing Kitchen Waste

Most home kitchens throw out more food than the cooks would believe. The good news is that the fix is not exotic. The fix is paying attention. A weekly inventory pass through the fridge and pantry catches what is about to turn. A planned use for those items lands them on the plate instead of in the bin.

Build a few catch-all recipes into your rotation. A flexible fried rice. A frittata. A weekend soup. These dishes are happy to take whatever is on hand and turn it into a meal you actually want to eat. Trim ends and herb stems often have more flavor than the parts you keep, and a stock bag in the freezer is the easiest habit you can adopt.

Composting closes the loop on the rest. The combination of better planning and a small bin under the sink can shrink the household waste stream by a surprising amount. None of it requires perfection. It just requires looking at what is in front of you with a little more attention.
